Citizen’s Eco-drive series first graced the watch industry in 1995 and was met with huge success. Since then, the technology advanced further and more and more models were added to its range, taking over the usual quartz watches.

One of these models is the Citizen AT9015-08E World Time Limited Edition A-T Sports Watch, which bears Citizen’s precise timing accuracy and superb durability. It also bears great form and features to boot.

Key features of the Citizen AT9015-08E

Eco-drive innovation

The AT9015-08E comes with Citizen’s very own Eco-drive technology, which was designed to make your life easier and help save the environment.

The sapphire glass and opaque dial of the watch allows both solar and artificial light to pass through into a silicon light cell. This light cell works like a solar panel, which converts the light into the electricity needed to power the movement.

The absorbed light also charges a titanium lithium-ion battery that acts as the energy reserve. This means that when the watch doesn’t have enough energy from the light cells to power the movement, the energy reserve take action so you never miss a beat or lose any time.

Functionality meets quality

The AT9015-08E by Citizen has an extremely accurate atomic timekeeping feature. This technology uses radio frequencies to update the watch with the correct time automatically. The dial has a beautiful black tone, topped off with luminous second, minute, hour, and world time hands to keep the time in check even when in the dark. An analog date aperture is also present at the 3 o’clock position.

Anti-reflective sapphire makes up the dial window, which is 20 times stronger than acrylic crystals and 3 times harder than other mineral crystals. This allows the watch to have extreme scratch resistance while displaying the readings clearly. And since it’s a sports watch, the AT9015-08E can take the plunge with a water-resistance level of up to 660 feet (200 meters).

Classic round-shaped case

The case of the Citizen AT9015-08E maintains the classic round-shape and is made out of stainless steel. This material has been a timeless favorite in the watch industry as it’s easier to clean compared to leather straps and even help buff out scratches more easily. And if you have any plans of gold-plating the case in the future, it’s very much possible with stainless steel, unlike titanium.

Brushed and polished, the case is finished in black to complement the matte black SS and polyurethane combination bracelet, delivering that sleek and stylish appeal. The case-back is screwed down stainless steel so the internal works are protected and accessible if ever the need for repair arises.

SS bracelet with polyurethane band

For that extra strength, the stainless steel link bracelet went through a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating process that makes it harder and more resistant to corrosion than most electroplated coats. Together with the SS bracelet are polyurethane bands, which have a more rubber-like feel and better tear resistance than flimsy silicone bands.

This combination allows the bracelet to be highly durable yet offer a lighter, comfortable feel. For a secure fit, the Citizen AT9015-08E has a fold-over clasp with double push-button lock that’s tucked neatly out of sight.

Additional information

The case of the Citizen AT9015-08E A-T Eco Drive Watch measures 46 millimeters wide by 13 millimeters thick. Its SS/polyurethane bracelet has a Men’s Standard length of approximately 8.5 inches and width of 22 millimeters. The AT9015-08E is a limited edition model, with a production of only 2,500 pieces worldwide. Each watch is covered by Citizen’s 5-year limited warranty on parts and service.

What we like about the Citizen AT9015-08E

The attention to detail on the AT9015-08E is incredible. It seems that every single element of the watch has been carefully considered and everything compliments each other so well. The fact that the watch is black is going to divide opinion right away, some people just will not want a black colored watch. But for those that do, or even for those that may not have considered a black watch before, but are now thinking about it after seeing this one, this watch is incredibly stylish.

The watch is very easy and clear to see, so just a quick glance is all that is required to be able to see the time. Something that not many talk about when they review watches is how comfortable they are to wear. We found that after wearing this watch for many hours during the day it posed no discomfort whatsoever. The watch uses the Eco-Drive system to power it, and the AT technology to provide the accuracy, so this watch is incredibly reliable.

What we didn’t like…

It is hard to pinpoint any major faults with this watch at all. As we have already mentioned, the color of the watch will split opinions, with some people preferring the silver stainless steel, or leather band, rather than the black color. But we found no negative points with this watch at all, so this section of the article is going to be nothing other than filler.

Why should you get the Citizen AT9015-08E

This is a feature-packed watch that offers a lot of functionality to the user. It is very easy to use considering the number of things it can do, plus once you have set it up initially you just leave it to run on its own safe in the knowledge that it will never lose time due to the Atomic Timing. At just under $600, the Citizen AT9015-08E offers a lot of quality, so definitely money well spent.
